AVG is known to cause Thunderbird to freeze

I'm sorry to report that the freezing problem has not gone away. Thunderbird has frozen three times since I made the changes that were advised.

John,
I apologize for the delay.
I appreciate your efforts in trying to fix the issue. I've sent you an email with further instructions to send us the diagnostics from your computer so that we can escalate the case to our Senior Team to analyze the AVG logs and provide you with a resolution for the issue. Please check your mailbox once.

Same problem here. AVG Internet Security 2017 seems to block Thunderbird receiving emails from Outlook.  No problem when I disable AVG - which ís not a good idea!

Hello John,

I understand the inconvenience.
Is the issue with Thunderbird gets fixed if AVG Internet Security is turned off or uninstalled?

AVG is known to cause Thunderbird to freeze, but the only advice I can see is too technical to understand. AVG help claims to address the issue but if it does, I can't find it.
The freeze seems to occur mostly when trying to delete the last email in the inbox, but it soemtimes happens under other conditions.
John, you can reply to this case any time and the case will get opened automatically.
Best regards,
Alok.
I've already done that. Since TBird doesn't *always* freeze, the fact that disabling AVG prevents freezing is not absolutely certain, but it seems most likely. Please tell me how to fix it, not run more tests.

Well, that's good. Most Customer Supports close cases very quickly and then to re-open you have to recite all the back history. So far I haven't seen a freeze, but it's intermittent, so I need a whole day to be more certain.
I am happy to hear that your issue is resolved. We appreciate your time and co-operation.
Hello John,

I understand that your concern. Please let us know when exactly "Thunderbird" freezes, it is when you receive emails or does it freezes randomly?
It is almost always when I delete an email, but on rare occasions it freezes at other times; these may not be due to AVG, of course.

John,
Please right click on AVG system tray icon and toggle the On/Off slider to disable AVG temporarily. Then try to delete an email from Thunderbird and check if that freezes the application. This should not take much time and you can enable AVG protection immediately after this check.

AVG Guru

It seems so, but I don't want to run a long trial with AVG disabled

Hello John,

I regret for the inconvenience. Please let us know if you are using free or paid version of AVG. If you are using paid version, please change this firewall settings and check if that fix the issue.

Please open the AVG Internet Security installed in your computer and click on Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Once this is done, click on "Network Profile(Left side of the interface) and change the profile to "Private" if selected in "Public".
Once this is done, please click on Policies->System Rules and enable the "Networking and Printer sharing" and other options that are not configured. If you face any difficulties, feel free to contact us.
