AVG is locking my external USB drives

OK, I sent the log in at least two weeks ago.  Any progress with this?  It seem so simple to have AVG ignore drives at my request.  I don't understand how such a function would not be solid after so many years of development.  Surely countless people have the same problem.

Hi R B, I'd like to ask you for AVG log files for closer analysis. Please download and run this tool, briefly describe the situation, include link to this conversation and send it. Specialists will contact you on your e-mail after analysis.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank

I have AVG Free running on a Win 7 32-bit system.  My problem is that AVG constantly "locks" my external USB drives.  When I want to safely dismount such a drive, using the standard Windows system tray tool, I always find that an AVG process has it locked.  So I have to "Temporarily Disable AVG Protection" (also from the system tray) - then the drive will dismount.  I've been through this scenario countless times now.

In "Options | Advanced Settings | Exceptions" I have listed every possible external drive letter (for example "H:") with type "Folder", for both "Resident Shield" and "Manual and Scheduled Scan".  Under "Scans" I have unchecked "Enable removable device scan".  I have Scheduled Scan similarly disabled.

–> I am trying to prevent AVG from ever scanning these drives.  I wish AVG would listen to me and simply ignore drives I tell it to ignore.  This is just maddening.

OK, I was finally able to send a system report.  Two problems with doing this:

1)  After gathering all the info, the app has two buttons; "Save" and "Send".  I figured I'd save before sending - in case something went wrong I wouldn't have to repeat the whole process, you understand.  However, "Save" exits after saving the .7z file!  So there is then no option to send it.

2)  So I thought I'd email the .7z info file.  The AVG Support Contact page has a place for basic info and then buttons for Email, Chat, and Phone.  No matter what I entered into the info, the "Email" button would never come alive.  So that wasted more time.

So went back and ran the tool again.  I have had many, many problems with AVG remembering "Exceptions" of all types.  In fact that's why I dropped the paid product after a few years:  complaints on this issue by many users were never addressed.  It seems from your response that AVG may be doing a better job now, so I took the time to participate.  We'll see.

Thanks
