AVG is not recognizing my purchased license # & it wont let me update to 2016

I got an error message that my license number is not recognized by AVG so I logged into my account–gained my license # and entered it but it did nothing.  Then I tried to upgrade to 2016 and it goes to the end and pops up with an error code and says installation failed.  I tried to uninstall AVG 2015 and is says the firewall can not be disabled and the uninstall can not be done–HELP!!!

We apologize for the inconvenience caused. To resolve the issue, I suggest you to remove AVG traces using remover tool( http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe ). Please restart to complete the uninstalling process. After running AVG Remover, you may need to manually uninstall/delete any remaining AVG applications from 'Control panel' and also 'search' for a folder "AVG Remover"(usually in 'C' drive) and please delete it manually. And then I request you to install your program 'AVG Internet Security'(http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Internet_Security_742.exe). I have also resent the license number to your registered email address. Please note that license numbers or product key is case sensitive. Please enter all the characters as it is mentioned in the email. All the characters are to be entered in Uppercase along with the hyphen symbol (-). Please follow these instructions and let us know the status. Thank you.
