AVG is now running in passive mode (again)

Hello Bruce,

I understand that you are unable to move AVG out of passive mode. Please check in your computer if Microsoft Security Essential is installed. If it is, please remove the same and then check if you are able to move AVG out of passive mode. If you do not have this other security software installed, please open AVG AntiVirus free installed in your computer and click on Menu->Settings->Troubleshooting->Passive mode. Try to disable passive mode from here and check if that fix the issue.

My AVG 2017 was installed automatically and now I am having problems with removing and installing it.
It’s the common problem where it reports that it is now running in passive mode.
I tried uninstalling AVG AntiVirus Free v17.7.3032, but this failed - it was still there.
I downloaded the Removal Tool.
While running it did not find any active AVG Product, but I gave it the option to run anyway.
Restarted the PC as requested.
I ran the Removal Tool again.  It hit a breakpoint.  It had removed the AVG Security Toolbar but not AntiVirus Free.  I sent the report to AVG.
I ran the Removal Tool again and hit a breakpoint:
Avguix.exe breakpoint x80000003 at location x65ceccd7 , running AVG AntiVirus 17.7.3660.244, but the installed version ( v17.7.3032) was still present.
Downloaded AVG Clear and ran it in Safe Mode as requested. It reported that Microsoft Essentials was active.
I have spent half the day on this problem – where do I go from here????
