Could you disable 'E-mail shield' (Open AVG Internet Security > Menu > Components > E-mail shield) and verify the status?
If you are able to access the incoming emails, enable E-mail shield component of AVG Antivirus and uncheck the option 'Enable Self Protection module'. To do so, open AVG Internet Security > Menu > troubleshooting.
