Hello Aravindh, I used the Android support forum, and also contacted them via e-mail. As I already just previously mentioned, I already managed to solve the problem.
AVG Guru, I used the support forum, and under the Android heading (also via e-mail). If what you say is so, then why is there an Android category to the support forum?
Right, so Android support is not through e-mail only, it's also through the Android support forum, here. Which is what I thought. Thanks for the help, y'all. Fortunately it didn't take too much to fix.
Hi
I have also recently had my Android device battery(Huawei P10 plus) excessivly drained having AVG Pro installed on it. Followed Greg Z's advice & I have my battery life back, although now the App keeps asking for permission to access & drain my battery again which I aint gonna accept till AVG come back with a solution. Battery usage log proves its AVG thats to blame in the last few weeks. Prior to this I had no issues so not sure what AVG have been up to. My partner has exactly the same phone but is running AVG free. Surprise surprise, her phone does not register AVG on the battery usage as it does not seem to be bogged down with all the other stuff that Pro obviously has/ does.
I have messaged the support team from the app so will wait on a reply, but just thought I would add to the thread as it was very useful to me.
Hello Karthikeyan,
Yes, AVG was up to date (not that it would cause a problem like that, just if it wasn't at the latest version). I was preparing to uninstall. Which I wasn't sure if I'd be able to, since the Android Application Manager showed "uninstall" ghosted, and AVG's uninstall menu option (conveniently) just disappeared, leaving only MBAM to do it, if it could.
When removing authorizations in the settings, I noticed AVG's enormous overtaxing the processor had stopped! I had just before tried turning off the "safe web surfing" to see if it made any difference, and it didn't. Yet, when I removed AVG authorization for services (that this feature requires) I believe is when it finally stopped the wasteful taxing the CPU. So problem fixed!
I think this was a recently added feature, and yet another bad one. In particular, when combined with use with Opera (the full Android version). I didn't have these problems when using Opera Mini. I think it started when using Opera.
There are so many bad extra features. AVG should really stick with their forte of only antivirus and privacy functions, which stand out as extra good. But the extra features are so lousy and this one even cost me a lot of time to diagnose and fix the serious problem. I don't have time for this. I think I'm done using any more extra features of AVG. It's just not worth it.
Just in the last two days, AVG suddenly started excessively taxing the processor almost ALL THE TIME. It's not showing that it's doing a scan most of the time. I did not install any new apps recently. It's using bare minimum 25% of the processor at all times, and going much higher frequently. It's draining my battery far faster than usual, wasting 35% in only one and three quarter hours. It won't allow itself to be shut down, instantly restarting if it is stopped, as expected for an anti-virus. Only a reboot will get it to stop this behavior, but only for a few hours, and it starts wasting battery again.
AVG was one of the first two apps I installed on my computer phone, but I'm going to have to uninstall it if I don't get an immediate fix for this.
