AVG is using 100% of disk leaving everything at a snail's pace

This is a recurring problem. I have raised it before and done what was asked but now it is worse. Unfortunately I have paid 2 years sub last November but if I do not get a coherent answer for a non tech user I may well uninstall and go elsewhere, leaving my 16 months behind me
