Thank you for responding to my question - that means a lot after some frustration to find out how to even post the question in the first place.
However, I don't believe that I have installed any AVG software to my phone. While waiting for reply, I managed to find some other questions that seemed similar in nature, or at least prompted similar advice about using remover and reinstalling for the free version of anti-virus software. That seems to have partially worked, although AVG Zen also seems to have installed and stating that "Protection Pro" expires in 20 days, which suggests that I might be back to same basic situation, although AVG Internet Security seems to be working now, in claiming that the computer is protected.
Again, thank you for message, and I hope that it was not totally inappropriate to use the remover program to reinstall (especially as it seems to have worked?!)
Software seems to think I am on trial, but protection not running, saying
AVG is not able to recognize your licence number
Please click re-enter and enter your licence number again - tried but don't have
If it does not resolve the problem please reinstall AVG - tried, but failed with error message
Error code: 0xC0070643
