AVG locks Thunderbird trash file, can't delete emails

Hello Christopher,
We am sorry for the difficulties you are currently experiencing.
Could you please disable AVG and check whether you are able to delete your trash files? so that we can assist you better. To disable AVG have a look at the following article http://avgclick.me/TempDisableAVG .

AVG found a virus in a spam email, and quarantined it. I had AVG delete it.

Now I cannot delete any emails in that mail account within Thunderbird, because the Trash file (just "Trash" not the "Trash.msf") is locked. I can't delete the Trash file through Windows, nor using Unlocker, even when running as Admin.

I'm on Windows 7, running AVG Internet Security 2015.

Yes, that solved it. For those that might be reading, here is what I did. The sequence may be important:

  • Shut down Thunderbird completely
  • Right click AVG icon in tray, select Temporarily Disable.
  • Navigage to the Trash file via explorer, and delete
  • Open Thunderbird and use normally.
  • Re-enable AVG
Emails are now deleting properly and the Trash folder is unlocked.

Thanks!

Thanks!
