With AVG running in the background and with any browser running I repeatedly get a popup threat warning showing a folder and filename that do not exist! I have toggled hidden files/folder to "visible" and the file (prefs.js)_…in a Mozilla folder starting with an "x" (a very long folder name) doesn't exist. Neither does the folder.
Additionally, the path/file has been added successfully to the exception list a dozen times - AVG is ignoring it. I have deleted ALL the exceptions and it does the same thing repeatedly.
The popup shows roughly every 2 or 3 minutes, making browsing impossible unless I shut down AVG. It's useless with this happening and I'm going to delete it unless a simple, one-time solution is found.
Anyone else had this problem and solved it?
Neither the folder nor filename exist. The path ois far too long for me to spend time scrolling through and transcribing it.
AVG is the free version - I don't have a burning desire to upgrade to the paid version as these popups have appeared as long as I have been using AVG… Previously one would appear every couple of weeks. About 6 or 7 days ago the popups started appearing every 1-5 minutes when a browser is open It doesn't matter what browser is running - Safari, Firefox, Chrome - even though the popup indicates (buried deep in the path) that it's detecting a Mozilla preferences file. Which is silly by itself - it's a false detection.
Oddly the same thing happened almost exactly a year ago and was never resolved - at least I don't know if it was, as there's no way of finding your own posts. I kept this open overnight or I would never have seen the replies. I stopp[ed using AVG for months - when I tried it again the popups again showed up only every couple of weeks…until now.
This brings up another issue - why is there no "reply notification" sent by email - as virtually every other company does?.
I believe the numbers in the folder name are different on different days. This morning there were about a hundred of them requiring me to reboot to clear them.
If I add the file/folder to the exception list AVG ignores the exception. I've added the same folder & file names 6 or 7 times - the same popup appears. I've tried "Protect Me" and "Keep Blocking" - neither changes anything except the useless exception list gets longer - with the same thing repeated over and over.
I'm tired of messing with this again and refuse to spend much time on it. There are plenty of good competitive programs available. If you have a quick fix great. If not, say so and I'll delete it. I will not "experiment" or "test" solutions - there either is a known solution or there isn't.
