AVG maxing out my CPU

Hello Morton,
I'm sorry to hear about this, please let us know the AVG programs you have installed on your computer (if you have installed two AVG protection programs), open control panel < program and features and look for AVG programs and also I request you to disable "Enable AVG self protection module" (please open AVG Free Antivirus > menu > settings > Troubleshooting > uncheck Enable AVG self protection module) and check if your CPU usage decreases.
Best regards,
Alok.

I have AVG AntiVirus (Internet Security) on a number of home PCs.  When I open a webpage on my Windows 7, Pentium4 3.40 GHz system, AVG consumes 100% of the CPU and slows the system, making it unusuable.   I opened PerfMon (Resource Monitor) and both CPUs are at 100% with AVG processes consuming 90% of the CPU.  AVGSvc, avgui, avgwdsvca, aswidagenta take 20-20% each.    Disk, network and memory are all much lower and none above 50%.

AVG is at Build 17.6.3029   8/31/2017
What on earth is wrong with AVG and how can I fix it, please?
Thanks
Morton Chalom
