I am very very disapointed with AVG. My computer was also messed up after a recent AVG update. Almost as bad as actually getting infected by a virus which AVG is suppose to protect against. I want the good AVG antivirus that I use to have without popup ads for other software. I'm paying for Internet Securitiy antivirus.
The new version did not remove the old version and the new version went into passive mode. I found a screen on the new version with an option to repair and I clicked on it. BIG mistake. My computer went into a infinite windows repair loop. I ended up reseting the Windows 10 installation and now I'm reinstalling all my programs. I'm not sure that I will reinstall AVG, even though I have a year left on my subscription. I'm possibly a long time customer forever lost.

This issue might have caused to you an incorrect or failed update from AVG and will get resolved, if you install the latest version of AVG Internet Security from this link: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-Protection. For all who is facing problems after installing AVG (for me AVG Antivirus Free)
BOOT your system in to SAFE MODE. if you are not able to access settings, then do this:
1) unplug your pc
2) plug in and press power button
3) when you see the loading dots quickly unplug the pc
4) repeat step 2 and 3 for 2 times
5) you will finally enter windows recovery
6) click troubleshoot->start up settings-> then click restart
7) You will get a menu. in that press 4 on the keyboard
8) System will reboot and you're on safe mode. Uninstall AVG Product.
9) Reboot system
10) Now you have peace now you are releived

The upgrade from 2016 to 2017 version was made automatic and it is unfortunate that the upgrade caused crash issues with your windows operating system.
I assure you that this kind of issues wouldn't happen in future and we don't want to miss a long term customer like you, hence I would like to provide additional support in installing the AVG program that you purchased and make sure that it is perfectly installed and perform all necessary virus checks. If you would like to get the additional support, please respond back.
Please be informed that the current 2017 version doesn't have the option to stop AVG marketing popups, however our developers are working to implement best and effect option to stop it. This process will take time but it will be implemented as soon as possible.
Avg tried to update and got stuck in the middle of the download. It then locked up my computer.
I tired to do a revert to previous date and it wouldn't let my computer do anything. It wouldn't let me uninstall it or any other program to run!
So I called AVG for help and the tech couldn't do anything, in the meantime while I'm trying to do anything to fix it, I picked up a couple threats and viruses, I know this because I had to run in safe mode and shut everything off (not run at start up) and download a couple of anti-virus and cleaner programs and they found the threats and clean my computer! Mind you I swear by AVG, I tell all my friends about it, I haven't had a problem not one since I got it in 2009, which was referred to me by friend and work college, who also swore by it. So I shouldn't have to be writing this text at all!!! Now I can't find how to reload MY Subscription that AVG owes me, that I payed good money for!!!

Ok. Another chance. I went to my online AVG account and downloaded Internet Security that was listed there (2016 version). Installed without issue. Last night AVG updated to the 2017 version. Windows listed both versions installed. After a few reboots, only the 2017 version remains and appears to be stable.
If you don't implement an option for a full paid version without marketing popups, I'm afraid that AVG will lose longtime customers and there purchased software will be labeled Adware. Ok for popups from free version, but not from paid version. I believe AVG's ranking against competing antivirus software will drop because of the popups on paid versions. I wish AVG developers the best and hope AVG marketing sees their error and makes corrections.
