I appreciate the effort, really. I have just recently started looking into alternatives for Antivirus software, currently Bitdefender and Kaspersky are my two choices should AVG not improve in the "false positive" area. My reading, both and the AVG questions area of this site and in other forums, reveals that AVG is struggling with many false positives (mainly with games) that is severely dropping their ratings. I have been an AVG customer since 2011 (or maybe 2010) and would hate to have to change to another AV because of seemingly small issues like this… but drops of water fill buckets and sink ships, you know?
I doubt your developers will even read this comment but if they do or if you can forward it to someone who might be able to assist in making a wise buisiness decision, I suggest paying close attention to which "game/gaming" files you are marking as viruses. True, there are a lot of gamers who download torrents, pirate games, and use questionable cheat engines from shady sites but MANY of the games being flagged as virues or outright blocked (for no apparent reason) are not viruses and some of the games that do not work (such as Elder Scrolls VI - Oblivion in my case) cannot be made to work by even making an exception for them… that is unacceptable.
Pay CLOSE attention to which files you are flagging as a threat, for instance I do not have a disk drive on my $4,000 Alienware laptop… so I use a "no-disk" .exe for several of my older games. I suspect that is the reason Olbivion is not working right now but that doesn't mean the game is being pirated or is a threat. Also, the "Mod Organizer" application that launches games like Skyrim, Fallout 3, Olbivion, etc appears as a threat (albeit one that can have an exception made for it) and that application is harmless.
Ultimately, make sure the user has the ability to choose which files are a threat and which ones aren't, especially if you are not going to employ developers yourselves that can make proper decisions for you.
My pruning is for your growth so please take my critism in a positive way. I have been a customer a long time and really don't want to have to start shopping for another AV this year.
Again, I appreicate your time and effort. I have always been impressed with the customer support at AVG.
Hello John,
We have just been notified by our senior technicians that you will soon be contacted once the data are analyzed. Thank you.
Hello John,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We could find that your escalated case(03590535) is still in process. All efforts are being taken to process the case with 'high' priority. Thank you.
Hello there, I have been a customer with AVG for 5 years now and have multiple accounts, keeping AVG Internet Security running on over 8 PC's year round (with PCTuneup). Recently however, there have been multiple problems which individually pose very little annoyance but collectively are starting to get on my nerves. For instance, just last month AVG started detecting all of my Windows 10 driver updates as not having proper "signatures" and reporting them in the notifications area after scans. If I have 20+ notifications after each scan then I tend to start ignoring notifications altogether, which could lead to issues.
The most recent problem pertains to gaming and while your developers may not want to cater to gamers/video games please keep in mind that the main reason I originally choose AVG was because it was recommended as a "non-invasive" anti-virus that worked with games.
The first problem is AVG detecting "Mod Organizer" as being a threat when launching Skyrim/Fallout 3/Fallout NV. This is fixed easily enough by just making an exception for the program but the second problem doesn't yet have a fix and I would honestly like to have a reason why.
My second and current issue is Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion not working. I called AVG tech support and they went through a remote session with me trying to fix the issue but failed to do so. The tech support agent didn't do anything that I myself didn't do, we both tried making exceptions in both the firewall and the advanced settings area of the AVG menu. Nothing we tried worked except completely turning off AVG (by right clicking the AVG icon in the system tray and selecting "temporarily disabling AVG protection" while also checking the "firewall" box). So I CAN play the game but only by completely turning off my system protection, rendering my computer vulnerable.
Yeah, I COULD have paid for your cheaper virus protection package (AVG Ultimate) but it comes with garbage-ware like AVG Zen that I did not want. Many hundreds of dollars are spent each year on anti-virus software at my house and I don't like wasting my money. I am already researching other anti-virus software but I hope the AVG developers pull it together before next year.
I was told that the issue would be escalated and someone would email me with steps to further resolve this issue but no email has been sent. If you want to help me out just fix your software and STOP it from blocking useful/functioning/non-threatening programs, then release an update.
Here is another fellow who has the same problem I believe:

So I am not in this alone, please correct these issues. Thank you.
