AVG not updating for THREE days (happening again)

Terry,
Thank you for reaching us with your concerns. This is perfectly fine as virus database updates don't have any firm schedule - they are released only when necessary.
However AVG is continuously downloading "streaming updates" which are much smaller and contains new detection, False Positive fixes etc.
This is done to optimize speed of updates and usage of the internet as streaming updates are very small and may contain just one specific update. On the other hand, the virus database updates are big, take longer to download and install and contains all previous updates including streaming ones, major fixes etc.

My AVG Ultimate virus definitions have not updated since January 8th (it is now January 11th).  I am not getting any error messages whatsoever - the program just seems to think there are no new definitions.

PLEASE NOTE: The same issue happened from December 4th to 6th, 2017 and other people posted that they had the same issue (see https://support.avg.com/answers?id=9060N000000Tn85) .  AVG took some action and the problem was fixed without anything further needing to be done by users.  I suspect that someone at AVG may not be uploading the updates to one of the servers.

  • I am using Windows 8.1
  • AVG Internet Security software version:  17.9.3040 (build 17.9.3761.0)
  • Virus definitions version 180108-4
  • Update Server:  http://g3903904.avinitro.u.avcdn.net/avinitro
Please don't reply with the standard reply: "I would like to inform you that your AVG program will automatically update. The updates might not be released always and is a Normal behavior. Once a new virus definition released it will automatically be updated on your computer. "

Clearly new viruses have appeared in the past few days and AVG has not been pushing them.  THREE days with no updates at all is quite unusual.

I should note that I have just completed a repair of AVG and the issue with no new updates still persists.
If anyone else has noticed this issue,
please post as well so that AVG can see it is not an isolated issue.

Terry,
I would once again like to inform you that the virus database updates does not have any schedule and they are released only when necessary. And the number '6' does not mean it is the sixth update for the day.

Sorry, but I don't buy that there has not been an update for three days.  It is strange that once I reported the issue, an update was IMMEDIATELY made available.

Furthermore, the version of definitions which downloaded was the SIXTH release for today alone (version 180111-6).  That just goes to prove there were previous updates available today which were not pushed.
