I'm not sure it's an AVG issue anymore. When I switched back to the onboard ethernet port to try to reproduce the spikes, I couldn't get it to recur. I realized that the laptop was in no-sleep power mode. As soon as I set it back to Balanced mode, the spikes/freezes started up again. Now to figure out the exact cause…

Hello John,
I completely understand your concern. Please let me know the version of the AVG Antivirus you have installed on your computer (open AVG Free Antivirus/AVG Internet Security > menu > about > subscription) and also share a screenshot of the network spikes to assist you further. You can check the following link to see the instructions about taking the screenshot (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot). You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.
I had a spare USB network adapter and tried that and it worked with no issues so it must have something to do with the Intel network adapter in the laptop. I'm surprised you didn't make sure I had the latest Windows 10 network adapter driver installed but that is a case at any rate, and it's only AVG that seems to be causing the network spikes.
And yes, as for the delete account instructions, I still need those.
