AVG Online Security needs a whitelist

I can see that you understand the idea of a whitelist.   Are you telling me that the Amtivirus whitelist affects the Online Security actons?  Everything I say was telling me it was just the Online Security extension to Chrome and Firefox that was preventing me from accessing the page. The AV program should have captured any suspect file or data into quarrantine  rather thn just block the site. What I recall from the AV program is that it warns a site is not trusted but allows access if you say go ahead anyway.  The Online Security Extension does nto give a choice. It is THAT LACK OF CHOICE I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT. If you can tell me for certain that exceptions to the Anti-Virus screening also apply to Online Security I would consider that an acceptable solution.  Otherwise you should start figuring out how to get a whitelist for the Online Security Enxension into the next release.

I expect the AVG Online protection is normally just as good as the anti-virus products.  However, you need to have a method to allow whitelisting a particular url or url family so that a reasonably knowledgeable user can still get to items they consider important even though you have warned them that there maybe dragons in the weeds.
Like many, I use the earthlink mail service, I have for about 30 years now. They have had issues with letting spam and other bad actors act through their mail service. and many times more have run through gmail or the microsoft mail packages. I get spammed, but I am supposed to be able to filter them if needed, and I can blacklist whom I choose to there. However, you have just decided that their service is no longer acceptable to the web in general and Online Security aborts going there.

You can have any opinion that you want, but you need to be willing to listen to my opinion also. I want to continue using their email, and lower cost ISP services. To that end, I think adding a whitelist option to Online is the simplest option to cover all users. It may also be usable for other people with other sites they want to visit.

Hi Scott,
We are sorry for the inconvenience and definitely help you with your concern.
Please add the Earthlink site to the exception list and let us know if you are able to access it. To add the website to exception list, please refer to the below article:
Adding exceptions for certain websites (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=AVG-Antivirus-scan-exclusions&q=exceptions&supportType=home).

We request you to submit the false positive form, so that the concerned team will investigate on the website and whitelist once they found it to be safe.

Keep us posted.

I was unable to access the earthlink webmail site as long as Online security was enabled. I tried on both Firefox and Chrome.
With Online Security disaled, I was able to access the site.  I did not take a screenshot. I am not working for your SQA group. The message was on a dark screen with a red horizontal blob which contained text indicating the site was blocked due to phishing and a button to allow me to go back. No button of feature to allow me to override the block. I expect that kind of rude behavior from Apple software, they know they know more about what their users want than the users do. Your shop used to be more reasonable.

We're sorry that you feel this way, Scott.
The AVG Online Security browser extension protects your privacy when browsing the internet. Many websites use tracking systems to monitor visitor behavior, so they can obtain statistics and other data for marketing purposes. The AVG Online Security browser extension enables you to see details about the tracking systems used by the websites you visit and stop websites from tracking you.

After installing AVG Internet Security or AVG AntiVirus FREE, you need to manually enable AVG Online Security in your web browser(s). Go to ☰ Menu ▸ Browser Extensions, then click Enable extension next to your preferred web browser and follow the on-screen instructions on how to enable the browser extension.

For more information about enabling and using AVG Online Security, refer to the following article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=Use-AVG-Online-Security).
Thank you.
