It didn't change anything and neither did a re-install but as AVG Online isn't using loads of resources I've decided to just leave it. There's a good chance it's been like this for ages and I've only noticed it since I was messing around with stuff.

As often happens AVGs update screwed things up. I've fixed that now but notice that AVG Online Shield Service is running. This is odd as I'm running the free version and have never installed any of the on-line components or trialed the full version of AVG.
I can't see any option in the AVG options to disable it (probably because I never eneabled it in the first place) so would just deleting the service from Windows manually cause any problems?
