It looks like there is an issue with an update or AVG user interface.
To fix this, perform a re-installation of AVG Internet Security program.
For uninstallation from control panel, refer this (article).
To install AVG Internet Security - Unlimited Devices program, follow the steps as mentioned (here).
Keep us informed about the status.
When I hold my cursor over the AVG icon, it tells me that I am protected, then when I open AVG up, it shows up in RED, and tells me it is out of date, does this mean I am not protected, or I am still protected, and why do we not get informed when this happens.

Once you get connected, inform that the issue is a repeated one.
