From your description, it seems that the AVG programs are not responding. Sometimes, this might happen if few services are unable to initiate.
In this regard, please restart your computer once & check if it helps.
My AVG PC TuneUp and AVG Internet Security both refuse to open up, yet both subscriptions have not yet run out . What could cause this and how can I correct it? Thank you.

Many thanks for your prompt reply. Did as you suggested and lo and behold, everything back to normal.
You know, small problems to you are big problems to me, probably because I'm 84 years old.
