To do so : Open AVG TuneUp - Background & startup programs - Check if MS Office is listed - if listed, click on Wake beside them & let us know the outcome.
We do not think that the problem is because of AVG TuneUp as the changes would get reverted when you install the program.
Do you use our AVG Antivirus free program?
If you have system restore point created and saved, then please restore to the point where Microsoft Office files was working.
Do you get the same error when you try to launch the Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel file from its shortcut icon?
I installed the free trial version of AVG PC TuneUp. I did not renew at the end of the free trial. I uninstalled the software. Now I cannot run Microsoft Office at all. I get the following message: "Windows cannot find C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\WINWORD.EXE. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again."
I get this message even if I use Windows Explorer and double click on WINWORD.EXE. I am wondering if it is anything to do with the function in AVG Tuneup which puts background programs to sleep and only wakes them up when you specificall run them.
I am running Windows 7.

Yes I do use AVG Antivirus Free.
As you suggested in your first message, I reverted to a previous system restore point which was pdated 1st November 2019. This reinstalled AVG TuneUp. Neither the TuneUp nor the AVG antivirus would work - I presume because it was after the expiry date for the TuneUP. I got the error described in this screen shot.
I uninstalled TuneUp and Repaired AVG Free via the Control Panel. This seems to have done the trick. MS Office is now working. Thank you for your help.
