AVG Performance Scan

Annoyance resulting from ‘Performance Scan’ introduced by AVG Internet Security update to latest version.

The Problem …

After paying for piece of software (AVG Internet Security), I do not expect to be pressured into purchasing more software to carry out a ‘Software Tune Up’ with a very messy exit from the AV scan. This approach to your paying customers is just not acceptable.

After completion of the Antivirus scan I expect to presented with an ‘OK’ button to return me to the AVG UI page.

NOT… a warning that I’ve 33k of System Cache and Logs to remove and I need to purchase more software to achieve this. A very small and unobtrusive ‘skip’ label is present which (when clicked) takes me to a further red warning message box to confirm that I wish to skip these issues and not buy more software. To progress from here is via a red ‘alarm’ button to skip and finally reach the ‘Scan OK’ message. How can this annoying procedure be inhibited, and if not why not ?

Suggested Improvement …

If the ‘Performance Tune Up’ software is not installed, skip the ‘Performance Scan’ and associated warnings to allow a quick exit.

If no improvement is made, further AVG Internet Security renewals are unlikely.

Environment : Windows 7 Professional, 32bit – fully patched.

I’ve reverted to an earlier ‘system image’ to use an earlier version of AVG Internet Security to temporarily overcome this and other snags with the latest software issue. Can the update to the latest software be inhibited while running version 16.151.8013 until some bugs are fixed.

I’ve also noticed that the license no. shows a line of XXXX’s instead of the correct number… when the latest software was installed. When will these bugs be fixed in paid for software…

Hello Keith,

I understand how difficult this is for you. The scan which you initiate from the "Scan Computer" option will initiate a full computer maintenance scan, this will first run a virus scan and then performance scan. I understand that this performance scan is not needed when you have not installed AVG PC TuneUp. We acknowledge your suggestion and escalate this case to the concerned team. They will make sure to consider this and update the same in future AVG updates. You can run a "Full Computer Scan", by clicking on "Settings icon" next to "Scan Computer" option and select "Computer Scan". This will run only the virus scan in your computer.
