AVG pop-up "your internet security trial has expired..." blocks AVG free from scanning

Hello Geoff,
Sorry to hear that. Please try to remove the expired AVG Internet Security program by following below instructions:
1. Use the link https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe to run the AVG Clear tool.
2. Open the AVG Clear tool, click Yes in the User Account control dialog.
3. Click No in the Windows safe mode dialog.
4. Select the installed version of AVG. Then click Uninstall, and Restart computer.
5. To run AVG remover tool please follow this link: http://avgread.me/1DEtNP0 .
To reinstall AVG Free Antivirus, please use this article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-AntiVirus-Free .
If the issue persists, please share the screenshot of AVG user interface to assist further.

When I attempt to run a scan with AVG Free, a red pop-up; "your internet security has expired…" comes up in place of the scan screen so I cannot start a computer scan?  Can't get rid of this pop-up even after running an uninstall then a reinstall, the pop-up is still there?  Frustrating? I need a hand, please.
