AVG preventing PowerPoint from opening?

I have disk doctor and the free antivirus products installed on my PC. Suddenly I can't open powerpoint files - even if I download them again while AVG is temporarily disabled, they get 89% of the way through opening and then an error message is produced. The message suggests that antivirus software may be the problem. Any thoughts from your end on this? Thank you!
