HELP !
I left my ACER netbook running AVG free on Win XP service pack 3 overnight.
I was presented with a notification "A reboot required to remove/heal an infection." or words to that effect.
I clicked the reboot button and the ACER rebooted.
However, when I tried to log in, it no longer recognised my password on the log-in screen.
What has happened and why and how do I get back into my net-book?

Hi Balasubramanian.
Thanks for your reply.
Since I was last on-line, a friend suggested Safe Mode.
I did that and ran windows.
I was presented with the log-on screen BUT with BOTH my user account AND the Admin. account - which had no password.
My user account still refused to accept the password but I accessed the desktop/windows using the Admin. account.
I then used Control Panel to reset the password and [BIG MISTAKE] create a password for the Admin. account. I then rebooted …
And I was locked out again as my reset password was not recognised.
I rebooted in safe mode but now there was no admin. account option to try AND WORSE …
there is no longer an option to use either "network" NOR "command-line" from the safe-mode page.
Now I only have the Windows Log-In which demands a password for my user account.
AAAARRRGGGHHH !!! WHAT IS GOING ON ? HELP !!!

Hello again Balasubramanian,
I just want to clarify what I meant by "there is no longer an option to use either "network" NOR "command-line" from the safe-mode page". Those options DO show, but, when either selected it is still the Windows Log-in screen demanding passwords which appears and not, for example, the command-prompt [DOS] screen.
Camilla.
