AVG Remover / Zen Install Issues

Hello all.  I'm having issues completing an install of the new AVG software.  After having initial issues uninstalling those listed in my control panel (Zen would first not uninstall as it stated AVG 2014 must be uninstalled first, however, there was no other AVG program listed in the control panel programs menu).  I then tried using the AVG remover tool, but after appearing to start for a few seconds, a Windows pop-up is displayed stating the program has stopped working and shuts down (it does however list that it found AVG anti-virus protection, even though there is no further icon in the control panel menu).  

After the above, I tried running an install for Zen, and receive an error message when it reaches ~95% (error code0xc0070643).  Based on other threads, ran the AVG BFEfix tool, restarted and tried both the remover and installation again, to no avail.  If someone could let me know what steps I should take to resolve, it would be appreciated.
