Hi Carlyle,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
Currently, we've stopped the distribution of Rescue disk.
Please write back to us in your own post, clarifying about how you used the feature & what happens exactly after using it.

Hello Del. Thank you very much for your time and patience. My name is Shawn, and I am writing to you on behalf of AVG’s senior support team. I am writing to you, as a follow-up, to your forum inquiry.

Regrettably, there is not an option of being able to restore said files using AVG or Rescue CD.

There is another restore option to consider, and that would be to use Recuva from Piriform: https://is.gd/BuopQw. However, it is to be said, this is an advanced tool that is best used by an experienced tech user.

Good luck. I am wishing you a speedy recovery. ~ Shawn
Hello Del,

We will check this with our senior team and provide an answer.
Before that, may I know what is the error that you get when you try to perform system restore?
My computer has slowed to a crawl, so it was recommended that I use the AVG rescue disc to boot my computer from to scan for viruses. I did so and the AVG rescue virus scan found and deleted hundreds of files that supposedly had the 'Heim' virus. I have since found out that the AVG rescue disk has old virus definitions that caused these files, that were not actually infected, to appear to AVG that they were -- thus, the files were deleted. I recovered them using chkdsk, but have no idea how to restore them. Because some of these files are missing, my System Restore will not work. Any ideas how to find out where these files go and how to restore them?

I get an error saying that the system was not restored due to not being able to extract some AVG file that was apparently deleted and placed in the AVG backup folder. There are perhaps a hundred or more files and registry entries that were deleted and placed in a folder named 'AVG arlbackup'.  Most of the deleted files seemed to come from either AVG, Acrobat, Dropbox, or Webex.

Thank you for the information.
In general, the threats removed by AVG rescue disk couldn't be restored.
However, let me check whether there are any possibilities to restore the files that you recovered using Chkdsk method.
Keep checking this post to know about the status.
Your patience is much appreciated.
