AVG scan causes restart Windows 10

Hi Kishore,

Just in the process of reinstalling AVG…

You asked what my old AVG program was and here it is:

AVG AntiVirus Free Edition Version number: 16.121.7858
AVG Zen version: 1.101.2.40207
AVG Framework version: 1.132.2.38575
AVG Setup version: 1.132.2.38575

I ran the AVG Remover Tool, restarted my computer and manually deleted the AVG Remover Tool folder from my C drive.

I then used the link you sent me to reinstall AVG. Once reinstalled I found that I ended up with the same version of everything above.

I ran a scan and AVG found no threats…

Thanks for your help so far, but for some reason, I don't think this is over yet.

Cheers,

John

Dear Avinash,

Thank you for your help.

I uninstalled KB3194496 and ran AVG with no problems.

My next question is twofold.

1) Windows will install that update again on its own. Will I then have the same restarting problem when I run AVG?

2) When I ran AVG it didn't find the trojan horse Generic38.OZM that was in the log file from my previous run of AVG in Safe Mode. Shouldn't it have found and removed it?

Thanks again,

John

Hello John,
We regret for any inconvenience caused to you. We would like to inform you that the issue is caused due to the latest Windows update (KB3194496). Please uninstall this update from the control panel and turn off the automatic Windows updates temporarily. Appreciate your understanding, thank you.

Dear AVG Community,

I have a similar problem to others that have posted and it is that when I run a scan my computer restarts on its own. I ran a scan in Safe Mode and got some info that may help. One line in my avgrep log shows this:

c:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy\SearchUI.exe (1752) Trojan horse Generic38.OZM

and there is this info on another line:

C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Avg\av16\temp\avg-e054c742-b058-4535-be28-c166108c5720.tmp Corrupted executable file

I don't know if this helps and I would greatly appreciate any help that can be passed along to get my AVG working again.

Thanks,

John

3. After the restart,  manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of My computer.

FYI - Great News.   I've been following this thread waiting for an easy solution.   This morning I downloaded the most recent updates mentioned in Aravindh's 10/3/2016 response to John and tried a scan...

GREAT NEWs - no isssues.   I did not have to re-install AVG from the version I had...

Hope others that have problem see this and try this before going to all the other effort.

Hello John,
Please follow the instructions on the article http://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent-windows-10-from-automatically-downloading-updates/ to disable the Automatic updates on Windows 10.
Regarding the AVG detection please let us know whether the AVG scan in safe mode indicated that the detected infection has been resolved by the AVG program?
Thank you.
