AVG Search - why can't I use my own search engine

We apologize for the inconvenience.
Please be informed that the AVG Web TuneUp protect your browser by changing the home page and search engine to AVG and this cannot be reverted to your desired search engine as AVG will not allow to change home page for security reason. Only disabling the extension, you will be able to change the home page and search engine.

Just purchased AVG Ultimate for my machine, getting messages about the browser plugin being disabled. It seems I cannot use the web browser plugin utility to protect me when I am browsing but I really would prefer to not have the rubbish looking yahoo based search engine. If I want to use my preferred search engine I have to disable the entire extension - REALLY? Come on, sort it out AVG, that poor form.
