I have the same axperience as many other in that I ended up with an unintended installation of AVG secure browser. I have managed to uninstall the program however the program seems to have made changes to my files e.g. PDF and EXCEL which have become HTML files. While the program was still active I could also not open the files (all files had the AVG Secure browser symbol in front of the file name but when I try to open the file I get a message the file might be corrupt) I have then uninstalled the program/app but still cannot open my files. How do I restore the files to the original format and/or repair the files in order to open it again?

Could you please repair your Adobe Reader application from your control panel once and verify the status?
I have a private laptop where I use AVG as my antivirus and all files have been affected. I have tried opening some of the files on my company laptop without success. Other pdf files on this laptop does open normally with no problem.
The laptop I am currently using to try and access the files does not even have AVG antivirus on (it is using a different antivirus program) and therefore it would not make a difference to disable the AVG protection at home either.
It was done - no change/effect. problem still present. URGENT solution required.

Please right click on any of the file and select 'open with', you will be getting a list of options. Do provide a screenshot of the same to assist further.

Let us check whether AVG Antivirus free is the reason behind this.
I request you to get into system tray at the bottom right corner of your PC screen and locate the AVG Antivirus icon from it.
Right click on the icon and turn the slider to the left in-order to disable the protection.
Once this is done, try accessing the PDF and Excel files.

Is it appearing for all PDF and Excel files?

Same error message is comming up when trying to open file with any of the options. We need to find a solution urgently as I need the files.
