AVG security suite eating up my CPU again. Please Help

Windows 10 machine. It is crippling my work by using 50+% of my CPU time. This happens periodically. I am a paid subscriber. I know lots of other people encounter this problem. I have tried all the steps I found online and nothing works this time. Please help me make this problem go away.

After fighting this problem for many hours, yet another reboot seems to have abated it. AVGUI.exe, the usual culprit, is humming along at less than 1% CPU usage. But it will return. It pops up no more than 6 weeks between occurances. Sometimes I fight it for an hour or so, sometimes I have had to live with the problem for days before it heals itself. I have decided that I will not be renewing AVG when my subscription expires if I am able to find a suitable alternative.
