Hello David,
We realize this must be upsetting and will definitely help you on this matter.
May I know whether you use free or paid version of AVG Antivirus?
Could you mention the operating system of the computer in which you experience this issue?
For the last couple of months, and it's gotten worse in the last month, every couple of days AVG avgservice pegs at 100% disk usage and prevents all internet activity, the major symptom of which is "DNS lookup failed" on all browers and AVG update. When I check "task manager" it says everything is waiting for avgservice
I've tried following suggestions elsewhere about temporarily disabling web shield for "10 minutes" and retrying to load the pages, but all that does is locks up AVG, leading to AVG crashing and needing a full reboot, which fixes the problem anyhow. I don't want to be rebooting my computer every week just because AVG has a problem.
As far as I can tell it can be triggered by me opening or having open too many tabs in Chrome, but it is not triggered by a drive-by site opening dozens of pop-ups on it's own: not what I'd call a good "web shield" behavior. We're talking like too many tabs of YouTube or big name online stores, not overtly risky sites. So say I open five to ten tabs worth of videos on YouTube it pegs the AVG service disk activity and potentially kills the internet connection. One night I spent an hour waiting and trying for it to come back, reloaded pages, eventually closed all browsers etc etc: did not resolve the issue.
any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. This has been ongoing for too long, and I'm finally tired of just letting it go without a report.
It is AVG AntiVirus Free version 19.5.3093 (build 19.5.4444.502)
Running on Windows 10
