AVG stopping software working and not telling

Hi all.
For a first post, I apologise but I want to scream at AVG! I just spent 2 days on and off wrestling with an image converter trying to reduce a jpeg file size down to a png size. It just wouldn't work and as I bought it through Microsoft Store never expected a problem running it. Anyway, it just kept trying to convert and then it would show a cross next to the file and close the app down, Then after a while it would allow me to reopen and go to the store to update. After update, it then went back to opening up and when I tried to convert, it did the whole sorry dance again. AFter two days searching for a tech support for the developer or for problems with store sales to no avail, I went to Paypal to get them to refund my money. They gave me a telephone number for Microsoft which I rang. We set up a remote session and I recreated the exact same situation I had been experiencing with a Microsoft rep watching. To my surprise, this time a window opens up telling me AVG has protected my file and stopped the software from tampering with it! It also asks if I want it to be allowed to do so! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: I looked a right pik. I told it yes and problem gone. Why the Hell did it take AVG two days to tell me it was it that was doing it?  Rant over.

Hi Dave,

This isn't the experience we want you to have.
We'd like to clarify that Ransomware protection on AVG Internet Security protects your files/folders. In order to access those files, you need to allow access to the apps. Whenever an app is attempting to access a file from the protected folder, you would receive the notification seeking your permission either to allow or block (for the first time). From your description, it seems that you've blocked the respective app to convert files.
Since, there was repeated attempts AVG might have provided notification again to seek your permission.
For further queries, feel free to write back to us.
