This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.

Since you are only getting the black screen when you open the AVG, we won't be able to change the settings to the default.

I went there. Under step 4 I am already on Automatic. If I click "Apply" I get a window under Services "Acces Denied"
