Avg Tune-up caused hard disc damage

Hello,
I installed AVG Tuneup on 6th January 2019 to speed up my laptop. I did not install any other apps or programs. On Wednesday 27th February, just 6 weeks later, my laptop crashed and would not restart at all. An IT specialist reported that the hard disc was damaged, he could not get in to the User account at all. It was dead, and I had to get a new hard disc.

I believe that AVG Tuneup was the only thing that could have caused this. The laptop did not physycially move off my desk, and no other program or update was added to the laptop.

Now I am afraid to use AVG Tuneup in the new hard disc. How can I be sure AVG Tuneup  is safe?
