Alan,
I will try to keep everything in this conversation. My problem is:
Used AVG performance tools. It did a scan (6 hours). The disk repair ran for over 24 hours and was not ending. I shut down the computer. However, everytime I restart the computer it immediately goes into disk repair, and even trying F2, F8, and F12 I do not seem to be able to stop the disk repair from restarting. ANy advice would be greatly appreciated!
I understand your concern. Please do not worry, you can do a computer restart by pressing and holding the power button on your computer for 10 - 15 seconds. After your computer restarts, check if everything works normally on your computer.
Recent question:
Thank you to Bhuvaneswari Vairavan for answering my question , but the article refers to when the disk analysis is running. My disk analysis has completed (took about 6 hours) and now disk REPAIR has been running for over 24 hours! How can I safely stop the REPAIR? Thanks
Response
Hello Lori,
I understand your concern. Please be informed that you will get an option to cancel this repair from AVG PC TuneUp interface. If you do not see any such option, please restart your computer, this will skip the repair process. You can also send me the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the AVG window, we will check the same and assist you further.

Per your request, attached is the screen shot. Again, after the disk analysis was complete, the repair itelf has been going on for 24 hours. Am I safe to just turn off the computer and restart?
Requested screen shot
Am not sure how to copy in screen shot. Screen reads:
Dell
Rotating circle
Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete.

Lori,
Please be informed that there will be a very short gap of time (1 second) before the disk repair starts after you every reboot. Press the SPACE key repeatedly during the computer bootup to make sure you skip the disk check.
Then follow the steps provided in this link http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Disk-scan-stops-at-27-after-using-AVG-PC-TuneUp to resolve the issue.
