It looks like you are referring to disk repair scan of AVG PC TuneUp.
If it gets stuck, it is necessary to follow the steps as you did to abort the scan.

When I ran the scan and repair tune up, it got stuck at 10% for HOURS, I found a solution: turn off the pc and turn it back on this time clicking F8, at start,and when prompted to stop the disk checking click any key to stop the scanning.
