Tony Anceriz perhaps said it best in his Support Post:

AVG TuneUp Destroyed My Registry!

WTF?!? If AVG is aware of this problem, why isn't the workaround published? 
Is AVG still wanting to stay in business? Does AVG care about it's customers? 

I can't figure out why this disastrous release was made available, and even more so why AVG hasn't owned up to it and fixed it already!!!

Hi Michael,

As you said, we were aware of this issue.
Our developers have fixed this in the recent update.
Wake the application that was put to sleep and restart the PC.
Let us know if you are still facing the issue.
