I am having the same problem on both my desktop and laptop. It's something in the System Junk settings that is doing it, but I have not yet identified what. Both Windows and Tuneup are fully up to date.
Hello Brian,
This is not an expected behavior of AVG Tuneup.
How do you confirm that AVG Tuneup removed quick access files and password? Do you get any prompt from AVG tuneup?
Also, please confirm the version of AVG Tuneup and Windows OS installed on the PC. Keep us updated.
Has this issue been resolved? I always keep Windows & AVG up to date. These issues occured immediately after I ran 'Free up space' in AVG TuneUp. I haven't run it since I lost those files, and I won't until I hear that this has been resolved. Thanks
22nd June 2021 and this issue still eixsts. Multiple Windows based systems, using different configs have this issue. Even a factory reset doesn't solve this and every once in 3 or 4 Weeks AVG decides to clean the recent folder. Looking at this thread it seems like many people have faced it now or then, please fix this permanently as I think it is a general issue and not something that has anything to do with other programs or files. Every 5th or 6th AVG cleanup run leads to recent folders getting wiped.

Is there any fix for this yet?
I am having the same problem, everytime Automatic Maintenance runs it removes all the entries from the Quick Access toolbar, even though both remove WIndows history files and remove program history files are both unchecked in settings.
I've been running AVG PC Tuneup for years, and this has only started happening within the last few weeks, so might have been something added in a recent software update. It is getting very annoying.
AVG tuneup erased quick access Recent files. None of the taskbar icons have recent or "pinned" files.
It may have erased start-up passwords, as "Fences" needed a password before starting.
1. Can TuneUp be configured not to erase Recent Files and startup passwords ?
2. Can I recover those files erased when TuneUp ran ?
It happened again. Automatic maintenance has just ran and folders I previously added to QuickAccess are missing. Just to update this post. Later today I'll open a new one.

This also happened to me, having both Windows and TuneUp up to date, just after automatic maintenance ran, however, if I run automatic maintenance manually, it doesn't happen. Not sure if is TuneUp but I see it's a common thing among those of us experiencing the problem. I'll come back to post if I confirm what's causing it.
