AVG Tuneup won't update

Fished around in Firefox looking for a similar setting to IE mentioned by Carol above.
Under Options/Advanced/Network/Connection/Settings changed proxy settings to 'auto detect', and this seems to have fixed the problem. Why this would do so I don't understand. As my system is currently up to date, having reinstalled, will need to wait until a new release to know for sure.

Hello Carol. Glad to know that you were able to update the AVG PC TuneUp program. Yes if the update doesn't work need to do some changes in the Internet Explorer settings. You have got that right. Please disregard.  I use Firefox; but I opened IE and clicked on settings; under LAN I checked automatically detect LAN.  Then I tried again to run the AVG wizard and this time it worked.

I click on "check for updates" and the wizard starts to download; then I get a failure message that says:  "Make sure that a connection to the Internet is established and that the communication from AVG Update Wizard is not blocked, e.g. by a firewall."

Then it says click okay to check my internet connection.  After I click okay brings up a page that says "select your internet connection".  The only option I can select is the first one – permanent connection to the internet; it does let me enter a proxy server but I have a direct connection to the internet and I am connected to the internet via a LAN.  Should I be using proxy settings; if so what are they

I forgot to mention that I disabled the AVG Internet Security 2015 firewall and it didn't make any difference.
