Hello Rick,
I understand this must be upsetting. Please follow the instructions to change the Firewall settings : Open AVG Zen -> Internet Security -> Click on Menu in the top right corner -> Settings -> Components -> Firewall -> Customize -> System profiles and enable all the configurations.
Also, please change the Network Profiles -> Change the networks from Public to Private. (on firewall settings) and check if that fix the issue.
Have recently updated my AVG protection on a tower still running on XP. AVG will not allow a connection to my Firefox browser. Even switching my AVG Firewall off and using a Windows Firewall is immediately overwritten by subsequent AVG updates. Firefox is fine on this laptop that is operating on Windows 7. How long will it be before access to Firefox using AVG is denied? In the meantime AVG should sort the XP issue. I shall consider switching from AVG if the XP issue is not sorted.
Rick, Also are you using Win XP SP3 SSE2?.. Have a look @ this AVG article (http://avgread.me/1Ewajhi).
