Hello John,
Please let us know whether you use Email client(Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) or web browser(Google Chrome, Firefox) to view your emails. Also please check if Anti spam component is installed in AVG Ultimate. To verify it, please go to AVG->Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Anti spam and check if it is with Green trigger. If not, please install it by clicking on 'Install component' icon.

Thank you for confirming. I would like to inform you that in the case of web based emails, AVG protects you in a different way. AVG online shield will scan the content downloaded from email attachments and block if any malicious content is detected. AVG Anti-Spam scans your emails only when you configure it in an email client. It does not work on web based emails.

I don't use any email clients.  I only use web browser emails, mainly Gmail.  Yes, I had just installed the Anti-Spam component of AVG Ultimate and was trying to get it to work with GMail.
