AVG Ultimate causes surprise problems

After installing AVG ultimate I have the following 2 problems:

(1) The "Zen" window will not stop saying that it's running a scan. Not even after the "Internet Security" window said the scan was complete and gave me a report to see. For HOURS the "Zen" window was still saying it's running a scan, and even when I closed and reopened the program, turned off and restarted the computer it still said that!

(2) My list of programs on the start menu disappeared. I use Windows 7, and I'm talking about the list of programs that appears on the left side when you press the Windows icon circle at the far left of the taskbar. The list of links on the right side is still there, and so is the "All Programs" link at the bottom of the left side. But the list of frequently used programs where you can press the start button, press on one of the names in the list, and that program opens has disappeared - except for one; the very top name on the list.

I uninstalled everything from AVG using the Control Panel "programs and features", and I did a system restore back to a week ago. My list of Start Menu programs came back. Then when I downloaded and installed AVG Ultimate, the same things happened again. My list of Start Menu programs disappeared and the Zen window would not stop saying it was running a scan!

I can't get return the program for a refund so what can I do to fix these problems?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

Hello Cheryl,

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
We guess that the programs list issue would have happened due to AVG PC tuneup optimization, to speed up your PC it would have done this but however, a deep analysis would be better.
We request you to completely reinstall AVG Ultimate using our AVG remover tool and if the issue still persists, please report to us we will escalate your case to our next level team.
