This is the 3rd V17 silent auto upgrade of AVG Ultimate on a Windows 10 PC that has caused the problem. Soon after the install I noticed my internet connection stated to fail (wired desktop connections) and discovered that the internet cable modem would reboot several times per hour. Cable company replaced the modem and tested service all worked fine until a PC with AVD Ultimate V17.3.3011 was turned on soon after bootup the cable modem started to reboot dropping the connections with all devices and keeps rebooting until these Windows 10/AVG Ultimate V17.3.3011 are cables are pulled from the network or powered down. The only way to resolve the problem was to uninstall the AVG Ultimate / Anti-Virus module and use the built in Windows Defender Anti-Virus for now. VERSION 17 has major issues as I previous reported. Poor & silent install (no permissions asked) Once installed "stuck" files in quarantine, and now this network Cable modem issue. Other PC's still using V16 work FINE.
John,
It is strange to hear that the network settings were reset when AVG firewall is enabled. Please follow the below steps and check if everything is working fine.
1) Open AVG Internet Security dashboard, click on "Menu–>Settings–>Components–>Firewall–>Customize"
2) To the right of "Policies" scroll down to click on "System Rules"
3) Enable the option for "Windows file sharing and printing", "allow remote desktop connection" and the last entry "Enable stealth mode"
If the issue persists, I would suggest you to install the latest firmware to your network devices and contact modem/router manufacturer for further assistance.
Also, please let me know the version of AVG installed on your computer.
Hello John,
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please follow the instructions to change the Firewall settings to check the status: Open AVG Zen -> Internet Security -> Click on Menu in the top right corner -> Settings -> Components -> Firewall -> Customize -> Network Profiles -> Change the networks from Public to Private (If it is in Private, change it to Public)
Thank you.
Sorry to say this problem has not been corrected and now even worse than ever. I have had to disable the firewall module on many family computers to prevent the cable modem from continual restarts / rebooting. When the AVG software is updated the firewall network setting changes from private to public and crashes the netowrk killing the home security syatem and camers, and all other devices on the network. Why cant you fix this, test this and or provide a "lock" funstion to prevent auto switching from private to public. To keep the network stable I have had to remove the AVG firewall module and activate the windows 10 & 7 Microsoft defender firewall. It would be great to use AVG features but not can't now. Can AVG figure out why this happens and also wht the public setting crashes the nome network.
