Hi Balasubramanian;
I have followed the instructions Bhuvaneswari provided above, and I now have AVG Free 2017 installed and it seems to be working OK.
Thanks for all your help. However, I must say this is the third machine I have had go through the update from 2016 to 2017 and all three machines have had various problems. I've never had this sort of trouble with AVG before and I have used it for many years.

Hello Abirami;
Please note that a posting from Michael Wall and an answer from you back to him are above. That has nothing to do with my particular situation.
I ran the AVG Remover tool as you instructed me to. It worked for about half an hour then asked me to restart the system. I did that and the tool seemed to run for a while but then just seemed to be doing nothing. I waited for three hours and then finally shut it down and restarted the system again.
Now it seems I don't have any AVG Free running. I have no start icons in either the Start Menu, the Desktop, or the System Tray. I do have four AVG processes running in my task manager, and in Control Panel on Add or Remove Programs I have one icon for AVG Protection (Ver. 17.4.3014). I tried using that icon to repair AVG Protection. It worked for a moment but then said the repair had failed and gave an error code 0xA001F90D.
What should I do now? It doesn't appear I have any virus protection running. By the way, this machine is running WindowsXP SP3.

Hello Bhuvaneswari;
Thank you for your detailed instructions on how to proceed. Before I start, I have a question. You have pointed me to Antivirus_Free_1817.exe to reinstall AVG Free. However, I notice there are other install programs out there. For example, if I go to the AVG website, it offers Anitvirus_Free_1896.exe. Why are there different versions of the intsall and how do they differ.

We completely understand the issues that you faced with this but we assure you that this wouldn't happen in mere future.
The reason this has happened because we have made some major changes in the 2017 which will be completely different from the older one.

Have a nice day!
Hi Abirami;
Just one more question before I proceed. Since I have two instances of AVG Protection in my Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, should I first try to get the old version out with the instance that says Ver.2016.151.8013 and if that is not successful, then try the AVG Remover tool? Or should I just use the AVG Remover tool to start with?
I have the same issue, but have been able to remove both versions. I have run avg_clear and avg_remover tools and Now when I try to install AVG antivirus Free I receive the following error code 0xe0010058. Next steps please.
