AVG Update preventing me from accessing most websites

Hello, Louise.
We'll certainly assist you with this. Please try to load the websites on a different web browser with Web shield enabled and check the status. If you receive any error or threat detection pop up from AVG, please share a screenshot (http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot) of it. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

Hi
Thanks for your response.  I've installed Firefox and that seems to work OK so it's obviously something to do with Google chrome. (I can't even access AVG on Chrom now - I've had to respond to your message via Firefox)   Would the AVG update have affected my Google chrome settings or is it likely to be something that I need to take up with Google Chrome?

Thanks
Louise

My AVG has just updated and is now preventing me from accessing most of the websites that I regularly browse.  I can access them when I turn the webshield off … but that rather defeats the whole point of the protection!  Other than adding individual sites which is unfeasible (as it's blocking most of them inc things like FB & Twitter) is there an easy solution to my problem?

Hi

I've tried that and yes, I can access sites when it's in passive mode.  I can also access them when I turn off the webshield.  Can you let me know what I need to do so that I can access them all the time, and remain protected.

Thanks
Louise

Hi

That seems to have solved it!  Thanks for your help.  I presume this means my compter doesn't now check outward 'traffic' from me to websites but I'm still secure against incoming nasties from websites to my computer.  Is that the case?
Louise

Thanks for confirming it, Louise.
The HTTPS scan protects your system against the malware delivered over HTTPS connections. When disabled, File Shield still scans all downloaded content before running any files. However, we would request you to uninstall and re install AVG Internet Security once to check if that resolves the issue.

Click on this link for steps to uninstall AVG, and refer to instructions in this article on how to download and re install it.

Louise, we can confirm this by disabling AVG protection temporarily.
Open AVG Internet Security program interface.
Click on "Menu–>Settings–>Troubleshooting–>Passive Mode".
Slide the cursor to disable protection temporarily.
Check whether you are able to access the websites through Chrome browser.

Thank you for the information.

Follow the below steps and check if that fix the issue.

Open AVG Internet Security, click on "Menu->Settings->Components->Web Shield->Uncheck the option "Enable Https scanning" and check if you are able to access these applications. (Note: Enable Web Shield component)

If the issue persists, please let us know and we will assist you further.
