I appreciate that managing complex software is a difficult busineess, but you have, while apologising, failed to address all of Saber Mac's points and this is not admirable behaviour. I have come here as a result of similar problems with my wife's machine that have taken a day of my time without complete resolution. I observed that the AVG removal tool left dozens of keys including the string 'AVG' in the WinXP Pro registry after running. This does not inspire confidence.

Having the same problem, I had to reinstall at april and during that time leaving my computer open for malware and unprotected against any hacks since the firewall also was down, not only the virusprotection. And I keep struggling with issues over again with new update 28 june. Im comming to the conclusion that I will NOT renew my subscription when it runs out. And seeing the "indian" names on AVG support answers does not impress me at all. Outsourced support is not very good advertisement. I will look for protection from other software in the future. AVG was good for a couple of years so was F-secure that i used before AVG… so now ill chasing next generation protection that hopefully keep testing the updates deeply before release. This loks more and more like money grab to me…costly bad quality seriously pissed
AVG - WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? April 2017 forced update
I have used AVG antivirus for years without problems. Until now.
This mess after AVG updated itself and brought in something called Zen is unprofessional. In addition, it did the following:
1) Shut off all my protection and put me in passive mode.
2) Tried to set Google Chrome as my default browser.
3) Tried to set Bing as my default search engine.
4) Removed/deleted all files that were in quarantine
5) Removed all OK’d / bypass items
6) Informed me that I now had 2 versions of AVG running and that one of them would need to be uninstalled. Stated AVG Antivirus Free would have to be removed before AVG Antivirus protection could be turned back on. WHAT?
Tried to follow on screen instructions – rebooted – now have part of Basic protection up for computer only – web and email won’t turn on. Still stuck in passive mode.
When the antivirus utility becomes more of a headache than a virus – time to change. I have no choice now but to download a different software….PC needs to be protected.
It’s a shame when a business forgets how it started and why people chose their products.

We understand your concern. We apologize. Sometimes, AVG old traces will conflict with the new update version. Its better to remove the old traces completely and then install the new version. It seems that you have resolved the issue successfully from the recent post.

The only other program I have is AVG. Why in the world would you update your product and then present a conflict with your previous version? It took 4 reboots and the problem resolved and I was able to get it out of passive mode. What a nightmare. Have always trusted your product before…this was not a smooth transition.
