Hi Fred,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
The final step of the update is to restart the PC, thats why you were asked to restart by AVG.
Do you have any other security application in your PC?
Could you share us the screenshot of the BSOD if you have captured it even through phone?
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Thank you for your valuable feedback, Fred
This isn't the experience we want you to have with AVG.
We could provide addition support if it's needed to resolve this issue.
So that you can use the AVG without any issues.
I have decided that the built-in Windows-10 antivirus is probably better than anything available, paid, or free. I'm sure AVG antivirus update caused the problem but can't offer any proof. I don't want to take the chance of using it again as I feel lucky to have been able to use restore my computer to fix the problem. The only thing that comes to mind is that I was still in my Windows email program when I clicked on AVG popup to restart the computer now. I would suggest adding to your software a recommendation to close all applications before clicking on restart now. Don't know if that could have had anything to do with the problem.
I thought about reinstall the paid AVG tuneup app as I really liked the sleep feature, but I don't like that it wants to:
1, Delete restore points. (Keeping these files save me)
2. Delete all my pdf files. (My pdf files are very valuable files with important info in them).
3. Delete all programs that have not been used is a few months. (Suggesting to delete these is silly and most people nowadays have very large SSDs with plenty of free space).
Recommending to do the 3 items above is one thing, but having AVG reselect all of these for instant deletion is very FRIGHTING.
I check my windows-10 virus protection history and found it quarantined one file later that same day so it probably doesn't have anything to do with the BSOD problem. The image is attached FYI

Here is the image. Forgat to attach in the comment.
I did not make a phone screen photo but here's a similar screen capture from my searching on youtube.
I believe it is basically the same as the image.
