AVG update yesterday installed the toolbar without asking. Seriously?

I wouldn't call the toolbar "malware" but it is definitely a PUP. Unless recently improved, the uninstaller does not remove all traces of the toolbar and Safe Search. I used AdwCleaner as described here:
AVG Support Community | User Forum for All AVG products (https://support.avg.com/answers#!/feedtype=SINGLE_QUESTION_DETAIL&dc=AVG_Toolbar_and_search&criteria=ALLQUESTIONS&id=906b00000004fs8AAA)

AVG should scrap the toolbar and PC Tuneup and concentrate on making AntiVirus as good as it was 2 or 3 years ago. AVG might still be the best free resident protection available, but I would never pay one dollar for any of their products! AVG 2014 has been a disaster of the type depicted in my avatar! (Of course you must increase browser zoom to see an avatar on this new "support community.")

one year ago, on the windows 8 of my mom, avg went from free to 30 days trial WITHOUT ASKING
now I just realized there is a new avg icon added on my desktop that was not there yesterday

last week avg went to full protection (whaterver the fuck it means) just like that, no prompt, not asking anything… actually the only thing avg latest version nevers do is to update its virus database

I am gonna move on as you said… FUCK YOU AVG !!

I quite agree it is malware - installing ANYTHING durong a routine update without asking beyond the pale in my book.  it took ages to remove all the c**p that was installed and I am still trying to get the standard browser "New Tab" page back after rebooting.

And I also agree that the new "Support Community" is a complete disaster.

I am afraid that AVG is getting perilously close to being uninstalled.

I've been using AVG free and paid for years now and I'm starting to think its time to move on. When a company you trusts starts to do things to hinder your computing experiance without asking then it becomes a wake up call that something is wrong.

It took me a good hour of my life to get things back to the way they were before you installed malware (unwanted toolbars are malware) on my PC. Thanks for that.

And BTW the new support format (this place) is horrible, that you locked down the old furoms doesn't surprise me, this new format makes people complaining harder to see. And is just another nail in the coffin in regards to switching to another vendor as soon as possible IMHO.

Hello Alan,

Already did that. In Fact I did that before making this thread.
