AVG updates don't work

I have same problem but have no intention of running a tool that "removes antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces". Please tell us how to fix this WITHOUT having to unistall and reinstall!! (Even the original install never worked and took days to fix… not going through that again… would prefer ot swap to another product than go through that again. WHY can't ypou make your installs and updates WORK!!!)

Sorry to hear that. Are you using AVG Free Antivirus in your PC and facing updating issue with it? If so, please repair it as mentioned in this article ( http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY ) and update it manually by going to AVG->Antivirus->Menu->Settings->Update.
If the issue persists, please share the screenshot of AVG user interface to assist further.

We do understand how difficult this is for you, we will do our best to resolve this. In this case, we request you to use our AVG clear and remover tool to remove it with traces.

Please download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.

1.Open tool
2.User Account control - click "Yes"
3.Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compatibility)
4.Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
5.Click "Uninstall"
6.Click "Restart computer"

After restart, run AVG Remover http://avgclick.me/UninstallAVGAV and remove all other supported products and remnants of AVG (ZEN, Framework). Now you can proceed with the installation of AVG free version as suggested here: http://avgclick.me/InstallFree . If the issue persists, we will assist you further.

Since taking the 'Free Upgrade trial' my AVG Protection will not update.  I'm constantly getting reminders that my AVG is out of date but when I try to update, AVG starts to upload, then delivers an unknown error.  This is really annoying.  I've tried repairing, no joy and I tried to uninstall and reinstall but I got the following error!  got 0xE001F946: Verification of digital signature fail.
