AVG using 99% of Drive I/O, with no scan running

My PC started Running super slow. I opened Task Manager which showed that AVG was using 99% of my drive. I opened AVG and saw no scan running. The only other process running that was using the drive was MS Edge trying to clear the cache, but it had to wait until AVG was done hijacking the drive. Took almost an hour. What causes this and how do I stop it?
